26 August 2025
The choice of materials for your process installation
Last week we started with the 1st ingredient of optimal CIP cleaning, the hygienic design.
Today ingredient 2 of the 10 basic ingredients:
The choice of materials for your process installation
It’s important to choose materials that you can enjoy for years to come. Suitable materials for piping and product contact parts include AISI: 304 (1.4301/1.4307) and AISI: 316L (1.4404/1.4435). The latter is preferred due to its better chemical resistance.
For other construction materials, it’s best to use at least AISI: 304.
Use materials that comply with DIN 11850/EN10357 with an internal roughness of no more than 0.8 µm.
Want optimal reliability? Then choose EHEDG-certified materials and a material certificate (3.1).
You’ll find two helpful overviews in the images:
1. Piping materials, welded fittings, and couplings

2. EHEDG and FDA approved materials and their applications

Next week, ingredient 3.
